Studio Services Beyond creating original fragrances under January Scent Project, perfumer and artist John Biebel offers a range of services for individuals, brands, and fellow creatives interested in exploring scent. 

Whether you're developing a custom perfume, seeking guidance on formulation, or just starting your journey into perfumery, John's studio is a place for both experimentation and expertise.

Custom Perfume Development John works with clients to develop bespoke fragrances from scratch.

Flat Fee: $600

  • Includes creation of a base formula and three rounds of modifications.

  • Additional Modifications: $100 each

  • Sample Sharing: Up to 3 working versions at 10% dilution are provided before the final formula is delivered.

Compounding: 

Pricing for final compounding is based on the cost of ingredients. John can either provide a quote for in-studio compounding or deliver the final formula for production elsewhere for fulfillment.

Scent Creative Consulting John offers hourly creative consulting for those looking to refine their scent ideas, brand direction, or project concepts.

  • Fee: $50 per hour

  • Includes video calls or studio sessions.


Private Teaching For individuals seeking one-on-one instruction in perfumery:

  • Session Fee: $250 for 3 hours

  • Includes access to the studio, materials, and guided learning tailored to your skill level or goals.


Guidance for Emerging Perfumers John provides practical advice to those just entering the field of perfumery.
This may include:

  • Connecting with trusted suppliers

  • Navigating compounding services

  • Clarifying production steps and timelines


Fragrance Evaluation & Direction If you’re working with an existing formula and need guidance—be it for edits, improvements, or positioning—John offers fragrance evaluation and shopping guidance.

Fee: $30 per hour or project-based pricing available upon request.

Speaking, Presentations, & Scented Art John regularly gives talks at museums, cultural venues, and art institutions—often without charge. He also participates in gallery shows and exhibitions where scent plays a central role.
